The Valley City American Legion Post #60 is holding its 2nd Annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Toy & Food Drive on December 15 at 8 p.m., show up with your craziest ugly Christmas sweaters for the chance to win prizes for best attire, and have some fun while providing food and toys for those in the Valley City area. The Legion asks that people bring a $10-$15 unwrapped new toy for a girl or boy, which will go to being part of Secret Santa with the Barnes County Sheriff and Valley City Police Departments, or a $10-$15 bag of non-perishable groceries for the Barnes County Food Pantry. Every donation earns one free drink per person per item. Big Hammer Karaoke will be part of the event.
Kelly Bennefeld hopes to see a lot of festive sweaters and donations.
“Last year we had almost three-fourths of the people wearing ugly sweaters,” she said. “We had a really nice crew.”
As well as the toy and food donations, the event will feature Paul Leier’s Big Hammer Karaoke.
The American Legion, chartered in 1919, is a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness, as their website says. The Valley City American Legion provides that help both as part of a national organization and as a local resource which serves the community in which they are most active. They host a variety of events throughout the year, and you can check them out to learn more and find their schedule of events on their Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter pages.
Everyone 21 and older is welcome to show their support for the community while having some holiday fun at the Toy & Food drive.
