Several area churches and businesses are teaming up again this year to make sure children don’t go hungry this summer.

Starting today, June 4, through Aug. 17, volunteers will distribute sack lunches to youth from 12 to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Valley City Barnes County Public Library’s Mary Fischer Community Room. Meals will not be served July 4.

There is no cost or enrollment required and the program is open to all children under 18.

The Summer Feeding Program is run through the Great Plains Food Bank.

During the school year many youth rely on the meals provided at school, and during the summer there’s a gap. Organizers say that this program exists to try and fill that gap.
