The Valley City Cares Mitten Tree, set up at First Community Credit Union, is collecting items to distribute to those in need this holiday. Rosie Larson has made the Mitten Tree a huge part of the city’s Christmas for over three decades, and Miller Motors has teamed up with the project for years to lend a helping hand to the community. Miller is working toward the goal of filling an entire van with various items to be distributed along with items collected for the Mitten Tree.
“Last year we had a lot of stuff, food, coats, blankets, toys, you name it,” Miller General Manager Jim Nelson said. Any of those items can be dropped off once again at Miller Motors. The project works toward giving residents the holiday they deserve, whether or not they’re able to on their own. Donations for filling the van are accepted any time during Miller’s regular business hours at the dealership, 1345 W Main Street, Valley City, open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Miller will be collecting donations from now until December 15, and the van already has items in it––a few coats and blankets, a bag of groceries. “We try to get it done in time for Rosie to collect and go through all of the items,” he said. “Bless her heart for doing this for so many years.”
Nelson said that Miller Motors will also be celebrating a show of customer appreciation next week as part of the project.
“We’ll tie it all into our customer appreciation next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” Nelson said. “We’ll be having cookies, baked goods, cider and some other things as a show of gratitude to our customers. We encourage them to bring something for the van when they come, too.”
Nelson encourages the community to show their support for residents who might need a little extra assistance this holiday season.
“It’s all about helping people that need some help,” he said.
Donations for the Valley City Cares Mitten Tree project may be dropped off at various participating businesses around town, in addition to Miller Motors. Stop down at the NDSU Extension Office, The Mane Tamer, Miller Motors or Leevers North to drop off donations.
